The United Kingdom is in the midst of an electric bike infrastructure revolution, with cities across the country investing in new and improved ways to connect people with electric bikes. Here, we take a look at some of the UK's leading electric bike infrastructure projects, and how they're making it easier than ever to get around by bike.
In London, the world's first ever Cycle Superhighway was launched in 2016, and it's been a huge success. The Cycle Superhighway is a segregated cycle lane that runs from Merton to the City of London, and it's made it much easier and safer for people to cycle into the city centre.
Elsewhere in the capital, the new Cycle hire scheme has been hugely popular, with over 10,000 people signing up to use the service in its first year. The scheme allows people to hire an electric bike from any of the 50 docking stations across the city, and then return it to any other station when they're finished.
In Manchester, a new £1.5 million electric bike share scheme was launched in 2017, and it's already proving to be a hit with locals. The scheme, which is operated by the company JUMP, currently has 100 electric bikes available to hire from 10 docking stations across the city.
And in Birmingham, a new electric bike share scheme is set to launch later this year. The scheme, which is being run by the company Mobike, will initially have 200 electric bikes available to hire from 20 docking stations across the city.
With more and more cities investing in electric bike infrastructure, it's never been easier to get around by bike. So why not give it a try next time you're looking to get from A to B?
