That means that, on average, there are more cars competing for fewer parking spaces in the U.S. than in Europe or China.

    It’s no surprise, then, that parking is a major problem in many U.S. cities. In San Francisco, for example, drivers spend an average of 79 hours per year searching for parking. In New York City, drivers spend an average of 106 hours per year searching for parking.

    The good news is that e-bikes and electric scooters are starting to have a significant impact on parking space utilization in cities. In San Francisco, for example, e-bike ridership has increased by 400% since 2017. In New York City, electric scooter ridership has increased by more than 1,000% since 2018.

    E-bikes and electric scooters are a more efficient use of space than cars because they can be parked in smaller spaces and they don’t require a parking space for each rider.
