E-Bike Communities for Women of Color: Promoting Inclusivity and Representation
E-bikes have been growing in popularity in recent years as a mode of transportation that is both environmentally friendly and efficient. However, the e-bike community has been largely dominated by white men. This lack of diversity is not only exclusionary, but it also limits the potential of the e-bike community to be truly inclusive and representative of all cyclists.
Fortunately, there are a number of e-bike communities for women of color that are working to promote inclusivity and representation. These communities provide a much-needed space for women of color to connect with other cyclists and advocate for their needs.
One such community is Black Girls Do Bike (BGDB), which was founded in 2010 by Monica Thomas. BGDB is a national organization with chapters in over 30 states. The organization’s mission is to “introduce more women of color to the wonderful world of cycling and to promote a healthy lifestyle.”
another community is Brown Girls Do Bike (BGD), which was founded in 2013 by Mia Birk. BGD is a national organization with chapters in over 20 states. The organization’s mission is to “empower women of color through bicycling.”
These communities are working to create a more inclusive and representative e-bike community. By providing a space for women of color to connect and advocate for their needs, they are helping to break down the barriers that have prevented many women of color from cycling. In doing so, they are making the e-bike community more accessible and welcoming to everyone.
