The Impact of e-bikes on Doctor-Patient Follow-up and Continuity of Care
There is no question that e-bikes are becoming more and more popular. In fact, a recent study found that one in five Americans are interested in purchasing an e-bike.1 While there are many reasons people are drawn to e-bikes – including the fact that they’re environmentally friendly and can help people save money on transportation costs – there is one potential downside to their increasing popularity: the impact of e-bikes on doctor-patient follow-up and continuity of care.

While there is no doubt that e-bikes can be a great way to get around, there are some concerns that they could make it more difficult for doctors to keep track of their patients’ health. For example, if a patient is using an e-bike to get to and from appointments, it may be more difficult for the doctor to know if the patient is adhering to their treatment plan or taking their medication as prescribed. Additionally, e-bikes could make it more difficult for doctors to make home visits to their patients, which can be an important part of continuity of care.

Of course, there are also potential benefits to using e-bikes. For example, patients who use e-bikes may be more likely to stay active and engaged in their own health, which could ultimately improve their outcomes. Additionally, e-bikes could help reduce traffic in medical office waiting rooms and parking lots, making it easier for patients to get the care they need in a timely manner.

At this point, it’s difficult to say definitively what the impact of e-bikes will be on doctor-patient relations and continuity of care. However, as e-bikes become more popular, it will be important for doctors to be aware of both the potential benefits and risks associated with their use.
