The Netherlands is often thought of as a bicycle nation. And for good reason - an estimated 23 percent of all trips in the Netherlands are made by bicycle. That’s more than any other country in the world.
But the Netherlands is also embracing electric bikes. In fact, sales of electric bikes in the Netherlands have increased by 50 percent each year for the past four years.
There are many reasons for the popularity of electric bikes in the Netherlands. One is that the Netherlands is a relatively flat country, making it easy to get around by bike.
Another reason is that the Dutch are very environmentally conscious. Electric bikes emit no carbon dioxide, so they are seen as a green way to get around.
But perhaps the biggest reason for the popularity of electric bikes in the Netherlands is that they are simply fun to ride. And with more and more people using them, the Netherlands is well on its way to becoming a truly bicycle nation.
